Mrs Matilda Asante-Asiedu, Second Deputy Governor of BoG and Mr Henry F Saamoi, Executive Governor of The Central Bank of Liberia signs an MoU, in a bid, to learn from Ghana’s experience in developing and strengthening its payment systems infrastructure

The Central Bank of Liberia is seeking to learn from Ghana’s experience in developing and strengthening its payment systems infrastructure as the two central banks deepen technical cooperation.

‎‎The Executive Governor of the Central Bank of Liberia, Mr Henry F Saamoi, and his delegation made the request during a courtesy visit to the Bank of Ghana (BoG) at Bank Square on Thursday, 1 October 2026.

‎‎The visit follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) earlier this year between the Bank of Ghana and the Central Bank of Liberia to promote capacity building, technical cooperation and knowledge sharing.

‎‎The meeting, chaired by the Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Mrs Matilda Asante-Asiedu, focused on strengthening collaboration between the two institutions.

‎A key area of interest for the Liberian delegation was Ghana’s establishment of the Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems (GhIPSS).

‎‎The delegation expressed interest in gaining insights into the processes, institutional arrangements, implementation experiences and lessons learned from the development of GhIPSS as Liberia works to strengthen its own payment systems framework.

‎‎The Liberian delegation also expressed appreciation to the Bank of Ghana for its support and collaboration under the MoU.

‎‎Mrs Asante-Asiedu reaffirmed the Bank of Ghana’s commitment to supporting the Central Bank of Liberia through sustained collaboration, technical assistance and knowledge sharing.

‎She emphasised the importance of peer learning, regional cooperation and capacity building in building resilient, innovative and efficient financial systems across Africa.

‎‎The visit underscores the partnership between the two central banks and their shared commitment to advancing financial sector development and strengthening payment systems in the West African sub-region.
