MTN Ghana has called on Ghanaians to celebrate and nominate ordinary people making extraordinary differences in their communities, describing them as the true drivers of national development during the launch of Season 8 of the MTN Heroes of Change initiative.
MTN Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to recognising everyday Ghanaians whose acts of selfless service are transforming communities, saying lasting national progress is built by individuals who choose to serve others without expecting recognition.
Launching Season 8 of MTN Heroes of Change, Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer Adwoa Wiafe said the programme remains one of MTN’s most cherished corporate social responsibility initiatives because it reflects the company’s belief that meaningful change begins with people.
“Heroes of Change is one of the programmes we cherish most because it reflects who we are as MTN Ghana. It demonstrates our belief that lasting progress begins with people who choose to make a difference,” she said.
Mrs Wiafe paid tribute to previous finalists and winners, describing them as individuals who dedicate their lives to improving the welfare of others simply because they believe every life matters.
“Listening to our Heroes of Change reminds us that there are people who wake up every day, not because they are paid to serve, but because they believe someone else’s life can be better,” she stated.
She observed that while many people occasionally perform acts of kindness, Heroes of Change celebrates individuals who make serving others a lifelong commitment.
Reflecting on the biblical command to love one’s neighbour, Mrs Wiafe said many of the programme’s heroes go even further by placing the needs of others ahead of their own.
She linked the initiative to MTN Ghana’s 30th anniversary celebration, being marked under the theme “30 Years of Progress, Powered by You,” noting that the company’s success has always been driven by solving everyday problems for ordinary people.
According to her, Heroes of Change follows the same philosophy by highlighting individuals who quietly solve problems within their communities.
“Our Sustainability Month theme, ‘Together for a Sustainable Future: Small Actions, Big Impact’, perfectly describes every Hero of Change. They begin by changing one life or one community, but their impact grows far beyond what they imagined,” she said.
Mrs Wiafe emphasised that MTN’s vision extends beyond providing connectivity to ensuring that every individual feels valued and recognised.
“At MTN we believe everyone deserves a modern connected life, but beyond connectivity, everyone deserves dignity and to be seen. Heroes of Change recognises those whose work often goes unnoticed,” she noted.
She urged Ghanaians to identify and nominate teachers, healthcare workers, mentors, volunteers and other community leaders whose contributions deserve national recognition.
Declaring Season 8 officially open, Mrs Wiafe said MTN would continue using the initiative to connect the nation with inspiring stories of hope, compassion and service while encouraging more people to make a positive difference in the lives of others.
