MTN Ghana has officially launched Season 8 of its flagship Heroes of Change initiative, doubling the grand prize to GH¢400,000 and introducing new award categories as it deepens its commitment to recognising and supporting Ghanaians who are transforming lives through selfless community service.
MTN Ghana has unveiled Season 8 of its flagship Heroes of Change programme, significantly increasing prize packages and introducing new award categories to honour individuals making extraordinary contributions to their communities.
Speaking at the launch in Accra, the Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer of MTN Ghana, Adwoa Wiafe, announced that the overall winner’s prize has been increased from GH¢200,000 to GH¢400,000, describing the move as an investment in expanding the impact of the country’s unsung heroes.
According to her, the first runner-up will receive GH¢200,000, while each finalist will be awarded GH¢100,000 to support their community initiatives.
In addition, MTN has introduced special awards for sustainability, digital innovation, and recognitions for individuals who nominate deserving heroes.
“This year we are significantly enhancing our investment in our heroes. The overall winner’s prize has increased from GH¢200,000 to GH¢400,000. The first runner-up will receive GH¢200,000, while each finalist will receive GH¢100,000,” she announced.
Mrs Wiafe stressed that the awards are not rewards for past achievements alone but investments that will enable beneficiaries to expand their community projects.
“These awards are not payment for past work; they are investments in the future impact our heroes will continue to make,” she said.
She noted that over the past seven seasons, MTN Heroes of Change has recognised more than 100 individuals whose work has positively transformed lives across Ghana.
She also highlighted the broader impact of the MTN Ghana Foundation, revealing that it has implemented more than 178 major projects, benefiting approximately five million people nationwide.
Mrs Wiafe urged Ghanaians to actively participate in the nomination process by identifying individuals who are quietly making meaningful contributions within their communities.
“I encourage every Ghanaian to look around their community. Somewhere nearby is a remarkable individual quietly teaching, healing, mentoring or transforming lives. Do not simply admire them. Nominate them. Let Ghana celebrate them,” she appealed.
She expressed appreciation to the National Communications Authority (NCA), the media, judges, partners and other stakeholders for supporting the initiative over the years.
Declaring Season 8 officially launched, Mrs Wiafe said MTN remains committed to celebrating selfless service and connecting the nation with stories that inspire hope, compassion and positive social change.
