MTN Ghana’s Chief Digital Officer, Ibrahim Misto, has urged Ghana to focus on the practical and responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) as the technology increasingly influences businesses, education and public services.
Speaking at the MTN-UG Tekyerema Pa Hackathon 2026 and Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing in Accra, Mr Misto said technology was valuable only when it was applied to create meaningful impact.
He said AI had the potential to influence how businesses make quality decisions and serve customers, how students learn, how public services are delivered and how nations compete.
“Technology is valuable only when we use it,” he said, stressing the need for Ghana to consider not only how AI solutions were developed and adopted but also how responsibly they were used.
Mr Misto said Ghana faced a defining question about its future in AI, particularly whether the country would develop and use AI technologies responsibly.
He linked the country’s ability to shape that future to innovation, funding and human capacity, saying these were important to sustaining innovation and supporting Ghana’s continued growth.
He also reflected on MTN Ghana’s 30 years of operations and progress, noting the company’s aspiration to continue doing more for its customers and communities.
Mr Misto called for collective efforts towards building the future of technology and innovation in Ghana, emphasising the importance of working together to advance the country’s digital ambitions.
