MTN Ghana’s digital business is growing by nearly 100 per cent annually, with Chief Executive Officer Stephen Blewett challenging the company to move from being the third-largest digital business in the MTN Group to the top position.
Mr Blewett said the rapid expansion reflected how significantly the company had evolved alongside the wider digital transformation.
He made the remarks during the launch of the MTN DigiFest 2026 and Tech Fair in Accra, where he highlighted the growing importance of digital services to the company’s future.
Rapid digital growth
According to Mr Blewett, MTN Ghana’s digital team has been among the company’s strongest performers, recording growth of about 100 per cent every year.
He said the performance demonstrated the scale of opportunity in digital services and the extent to which technology had changed the company and its operations.
“Our digital team is performing exceptionally well because they’re growing at like 100 per cent every year,” he said.
He, however, said the company could not be satisfied with its current position within the wider MTN Group.
Ambition to climb the digital rankings
Mr Blewett disclosed that MTN Ghana’s digital business currently ranks third within the group, setting the ambition of moving into second place and ultimately becoming the leading digital business.
“I think digital is my challenge. They’re number three in the group. So we need to get to number two and number one,” he said.
He acknowledged that achieving the ambition would require a different level of effort, given the competitive nature of the digital space.
“We have a little bit of a different hustle,” he said.
Solutions must drive digital growth
Beyond growth figures, Mr Blewett stressed the importance of developing solutions as digital services continue to expand.
Reflecting on the digital platform supporting the event, he said the experience reinforced the need for practical digital solutions.
“The growth in digital services is massive,” he said, adding that digital development must be centred on creating solutions.
His remarks positioned solutions as a key driver of the company’s digital evolution, as MTN Ghana seeks to build on the rapid growth of its digital business.
