MTN Ghana and Samsung Ghana have presented 500 Samsung Galaxy A2 core phones to the Government of Ghana to aid the fight against COVID-19.
The phones, were given to the Ministry of Information and the Ghana Health Service to enhance government’s contact tracing.
In addition, MTN has offered 500 sim cards and 500mb data for each phone for the next 6 months.
This comes to add to the over GHC5m worth of items and support MTN has given government to fight COVID-19.
Managing Director of Samsung Electronics West Africa, Eugene Nahm, who presented the package to the Information Minister said, “As COVID-19 continues to make its way across the country, our thoughts are with the people of Ghana.”
He said Samsung and it partner, MTN Ghana, will continue to work with the government in he COVID-19 fight.
“We also believe that all companies should unite to work together with the country’s leaders now more than ever. Our partner, MTN Ghana, will provide free Sim cards with 500mb data every month for 6 months for the devices we are donating,” he added
Receiving the devices on behalf of the Government, the Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah commended Samsung and MTN for the support.
He gave the assurance that the devices will be used for its intended purpose, saying that it will go mainly to the COVID-19 management teams in the districts.
Kojo Oppong Nkrumah further acknowledged the efforts of all telcos in the country with their COVID-19 relief packages to customers and their immense support to government in several ways during this crisis period.
