Samsung Electronics has officially entered the multi-fold smartphone era with the launch of its Galaxy Z TriFold, a groundbreaking device that folds in two places to reveal a tablet-sized 10-inch display.
The premium handset will go on sale in South Korea on 12 December at a price of KRW3.6 million ($2,444).
International rollout will follow shortly after, with China, Taiwan, Singapore and the UAE next in line. A U.S. release is scheduled for Q1 2026.
At first glance, the Galaxy Z TriFold resembles a standard smartphone with its 6.5-inch cover screen. But the device’s defining feature is its ability to fold out twice, thanks to dual hinges, expanding into a wide, tablet-like interior display.
Samsung says the inner screen performs “like three 6.5-inch smartphones” placed side-by-side, enabling advanced multitasking as well as uninterrupted document viewing, gaming or media consumption.
The company describes the immersive display as offering “a best-in-class mobile experience never before seen in any other form factor.”
Among the standout specifications:
- Thickness: 3.9 mm at its narrowest when fully unfolded
- Battery: 5,600mAh — Samsung’s largest ever in a foldable
- Processor: Customised Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset
- Camera: Triple rear setup, headlined by a 200MP main sensor
- Design: New hinge architecture and improved foldable display technology for added resilience
Samsung says the innovations address long-standing concerns about foldable durability while enhancing portability and premium performance.
The Galaxy Z TriFold integrates Samsung’s latest AI features and is positioned as a device for users who need productivity, entertainment, and mobility in one package. The company also emphasises smoother task-switching and cinematic viewing experiences enabled by the expanded screen real estate.
Samsung’s co-CEO and head of Device eXperience, TM Roh, said the TriFold represents the company’s effort to solve “one of the mobile industry’s longest-standing challenges, delivering the perfect balance between portability, premium performance and productivity all in one device.”
Samsung’s entry into the triple-fold market comes after Huawei released its second-generation multi-fold smartphone in September. Analysts expect the new category to become a key competitive space as brands push beyond traditional foldables.
