UK, Ghana deepen ties on AI and scientific innovation

The United Kingdom and Ghana have taken a significant step towards strengthening cooperation in science, technology and innovation, with both countries launching new initiatives aimed at advancing artificial intelligence (AI) and research development.

‎‎The collaboration was highlighted during a roundtable discussion involving Ghana’s Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations and the Global Tech Director of the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), alongside representatives from both the public and private sectors.

‎‎According to the British High Commission in Accra, the engagement marks the beginning of a new phase of partnership focused on harnessing technology to drive economic growth, innovation and job creation in both countries.

‎‎A key outcome of the discussions was the establishment of a new AI partnership designed to support Ghana’s national AI strategy. The initiative is expected to help strengthen the country’s capacity in artificial intelligence, promote responsible adoption of emerging technologies and enhance digital transformation efforts across key sectors.

‎‎The UK also announced £6 million in research and development funding to support collaborative scientific and technological projects.

‎The investment is expected to boost innovation, encourage knowledge-sharing and create opportunities for researchers, entrepreneurs and technology firms in Ghana and the UK.

‎‎Officials noted that the partnership reflects a shared commitment to leveraging technology as a catalyst for sustainable development and economic progress.

‎‎The British High Commission said the collaboration would help foster innovation ecosystems, unlock new opportunities for businesses and researchers, and contribute to long-term growth in both nations.

‎The latest development further underscores the growing relationship between Ghana and the UK in the digital and technology space, as both countries seek to position themselves at the forefront of emerging technological advancements.
