Verizon Communications has secured a contract worth more than US$1 billion with Alphabet’s Google to provide dark fibre connectivity for the technology company’s data centres, Verizon Chief Executive Officer Dan Schulman has announced.
Schulman disclosed the agreement during Verizon’s post-earnings conference call, describing it as a significant milestone in the company’s infrastructure business.
The deal will see Verizon supply dark fibre connectivity to support Google’s expanding network of data centres, as demand for high-capacity digital infrastructure continues to grow.
Schulman also indicated that Verizon expects to announce additional large-scale agreements before the end of the year.
”We have other deals that we expect to announce by year end that, taken together, are expected to be worth multiple billions of dollars in revenue over the next several years,” he said.
The agreement strengthens Verizon’s position as a provider of critical network infrastructure for hyperscale technology companies, while supporting Google’s growing data centre operations. Additional contracts anticipated later this year could further expand Verizon’s long-term revenue pipeline.
