President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in Minsk to commence a state visit to the Republic of Belarus, aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and exploring opportunities for cooperation in agriculture, industry and technology.
Upon arrival at Minsk International Airport, President Mahama was received by Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Karankevich and a delegation of senior government officials.
As part of his official engagements, the President visited the Victory Monument in Minsk, where he laid a wreath in honour of Belarusian and Soviet Army soldiers who lost their lives during the liberation of the country in the Second World War.
The solemn wreath-laying ceremony was attended by the Governor of Minsk, Vladimir Kukharev, officials from the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ghana’s Ambassador to Russia, Dr Koma Steem Jehu-Appiah.
President Mahama later toured Belagro 2026, one of Belarus’s premier agricultural exhibitions, accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Karankevich.
The exhibition showcased a wide range of modern agricultural technologies, heavy-duty farming equipment, mining machinery and industrial innovations.
During the visit, the President inspected products and machinery from leading Belarusian manufacturers, including Minsk Tractor Works (MTZ), Minskyekspo ZAO, Bobruiskagromash and the BelAZ-75710, one of the world’s largest haulage trucks.
Speaking briefly during the tour, President Mahama described the visit as timely, noting that it aligns with his administration’s vision of transforming Ghana’s agricultural sector through strategic partnerships and the adoption of modern technologies.
He said Belarus’s extensive experience in agricultural mechanisation presents valuable opportunities for Ghana as it seeks to increase productivity and modernise farming practices.
While commending the quality and sophistication of the machinery on display, President Mahama stressed that any future procurement arrangements would depend on the availability of reliable technical support, spare parts and comprehensive after-sales services.
The state visit is expected to deepen cooperation between Ghana and Belarus, particularly in agriculture, industrial development and trade, while opening avenues for technology transfer and investment.
