The Ministry of the Interior has urged the public to exercise extreme caution following heavy rains that triggered flooding in several parts of the country on Monday morning.
In a public advisory, the Ministry called on residents to remain in safe locations until weather conditions improve, warning that unnecessary movement could place lives at risk.
The Ministry advised those who are safely at home to remain indoors, while individuals at their workplaces or other secure locations were encouraged to stay where they are until it is safe to travel.
Motorists and pedestrians have also been warned against attempting to drive or walk through flooded roads, bridges or waterways, as rapidly rising floodwaters could pose a serious threat to life and property.
To support emergency response efforts, the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana National Fire Service, the Ghana Armed Forces, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and other emergency agencies have been deployed across affected areas. The agencies are monitoring the situation, managing traffic, assisting affected residents and carrying out rescue operations where necessary.
The Ministry further advised residents living in flood-prone communities to move to higher ground where it is safe to do so and to report emergencies or persons in distress to the nearest security agency or emergency response service without delay.
Authorities have appealed to the public to remain calm, cooperate with instructions from security and emergency personnel, and rely only on official sources for updates on the evolving situation.
Members of the public requiring emergency assistance have been encouraged to contact the Ghana Police Service on 18555 or 112, the Ghana National Fire Service on 192, or the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) on 112.
The Ministry said it would continue to monitor developments and provide further information as the situation evolves.
