MTN MoMo is Safe and Secure – MML assures customers

MobileMoney Limited (MTN MoMo) says the recently cybersecurity incident that hit MTN did not affect the mobile money systems, so MoMo customers details and funds are safe and secure. 

In statement, MTN MoMo noted that following the data hack, there have been messages on social media claiming that MTN MoMo systems have been compromised due to a cybersecurity incident, so MoMo customers were being advised to withdraw their funds.

“We want to clarify that this information is completely misleading, untrue and, in some instances, potentially mischievous,” the statement said. “We assure all our valued customers that the cybersecurity incident has not impacted on the operation or security of our mobile money systems.”

The statement said no customers have lost any of their money as a result of the cybersecurity incident, adding that the MTN MoMo platform remains safe and secure, and customer funds are protected.

According to the statement, MTN MoMo operates with robust security protocols and continuously monitors its environment to enhance system integrity.

The MoMo platform, it said, utilizes industry-leading security measures, including end-to-end encryption, multi-factor authentication, and ongoing monitoring to detect and prevent fraudulent activity.

“We also collaborate closely with regulatory authorities, cybersecurity experts, and partner institutions to uphold the highest safety standards,” it stated. “We appreciate our customers’ concerns and want to reaffirm our commitment to the safety of mobile money services.”

MTN MoMo then urged customers and the public to rely on official channels of MobileMoney LTD and MTN Ghana for authentic and accurate information, adding, “We also remind our valued customers to remain vigilant and avoid disclosing sensitive information such as passwords, PINs, and OTPs via phone, text, messages, or emails.”

Customers are also being advised to contact MTN’s toll-free customer care number at 100 for any assistance.
