Parliament of Ghana has confirmed that the Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, Kwame Ohene Frimpong, has been detained at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
A statement issued by Parliament on Facebook said the matter had been brought to the attention of the House, adding that the Rt Hon Speaker and the leadership of Parliament were engaging Ghana’s diplomatic mission in The Hague to ascertain the full details surrounding the incident.
According to the statement, Ghana’s Mission in The Hague is currently working to gather detailed information regarding the detention of the legislator.
Parliament further assured the public that updates would be communicated as appropriate once more facts emerge on the matter.
The circumstances leading to the detention of the MP at the Dutch airport remain unclear at this stage.
