Sao Tome President arrives in Accra for Reparatory Justice Conference

The President of São Tomé and Príncipe, HE Carlos Vila Nova, has arrived in Accra to participate in the upcoming Next Steps Conference on Reparatory Justice.

‎‎President Vila Nova was received upon arrival at the Jubilee Lounge of the Accra International Airport by Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Okudzeto Ablakwa.

‎‎The São Toméan leader is among a distinguished group of international dignitaries and thought leaders expected to contribute to discussions at the high-level conference, which is being hosted by President Mahama in Accra.

‎‎The Next Steps Conference on Reparatory Justice is expected to bring together policymakers, scholars, civil society organisations and global stakeholders to deliberate on issues relating to reparations, historical injustices and pathways towards restorative justice for affected communities.

‎‎As one of the keynote speakers at the conference, President Vila Nova is expected to share perspectives on the importance of international cooperation and collective efforts in advancing the reparatory justice agenda.

‎‎The conference forms part of broader continental and global conversations on addressing the enduring legacy of slavery, colonialism and other historical injustices, while exploring practical measures to promote equity, reconciliation and sustainable development.

‎The arrival of President Vila Nova underscores the significance of the conference and highlights the growing international interest in advancing discussions on reparatory justice and historical accountability.
