The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has organised an orientation programme for more than 800 cadet officers who are set to enrol in the Postgraduate Diploma in Security Studies.
The orientation programme was held at the Ghana Police Academy and the Ghana Police Training School in Accra, bringing together the prospective students and university officials ahead of the commencement of academic activities.
The cadet officers constitute the second cohort of students admitted to pursue the Postgraduate Diploma in Security Studies, a programme offered by the Department of Forensic Sciences at UCC in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service.
The orientation was designed to familiarise the officers with the University’s academic system and provide them with the necessary information and guidance to successfully navigate their postgraduate studies.
Addressing the participants, the Dean of the School of Graduate Studies at UCC, Professor Sarah Darkwa, welcomed the cadet officers and congratulated them on their admission to the programme.
She emphasised the importance of commitment and discipline in postgraduate education, noting that success at that level required dedication, hard work and effective time management.
Professor Darkwa encouraged the officers to take full advantage of the learning opportunities available to them and to balance their professional responsibilities with their academic pursuits.
The collaboration between UCC and the Ghana Police Service seeks to strengthen professional capacity within the security sector by equipping officers with advanced knowledge and skills in security studies and related disciplines.
The Postgraduate Diploma in Security Studies is expected to enhance the analytical, investigative and leadership capabilities of participants, thereby contributing to improved security management and law enforcement in the country.
