Ghana, Brazil explore stronger cultural ties through carnival and tourism partnership

The Deputy Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Yussif Issaka Jajah, has held discussions with a Brazilian delegation led by renowned content creator and cultural ambassador Wode Maya on strengthening cultural relations between Ghana and Brazil through festivals, cultural exchange programmes and tourism promotion.

‎The meeting focused on opportunities to deepen cooperation between the two countries by leveraging their shared historical and cultural connections, particularly those rooted in the African diaspora.

‎‎During the engagement, the Brazilian delegation formally invited Ghana to participate in the São Paulo Carnival, one of the largest and most celebrated cultural events in the world.

‎‎The delegation also unveiled plans by a leading Brazilian Samba school to feature Ghana as the central theme of its 2027 carnival parade.

‎‎The proposed showcase is expected to present Ghana’s rich cultural heritage, history and tourism attractions to millions of spectators and television viewers across the globe. Organisers indicated that the parade would highlight the country’s iconic landmarks, traditions and contributions to global African heritage.

‎‎Mr Jajah welcomed the initiative and expressed the Ministry’s commitment to exploring opportunities that promote Ghana’s culture on the international stage. He noted that such collaborations have the potential to strengthen ties with the diaspora, increase tourist arrivals and enhance bilateral relations between Ghana and Brazil.

‎‎According to the Deputy Minister, the Ministry remains keen on supporting initiatives that showcase Ghana’s unique cultural identity while creating new avenues for investment, cultural diplomacy and economic growth through tourism.

‎‎The engagement marks another significant step in efforts to deepen cooperation between Ghana and Brazil, using their shared Afro-Brazilian heritage as a foundation for cultural exchange, tourism development and greater global visibility for Ghana.
