MultiChoice is offering former Showmax subscribers in Kenya a significantly discounted DStv Stream Compact subscription as part of efforts to retain customers following the streaming platform’s closure in April.
Under the promotion, eligible customers can subscribe to DStv Stream Compact for KES 550 (approximately $4.25) per month for 12 months. Once the promotional period ends, the subscription will revert to the standard monthly fee of KES 4,200 ($32.50).
The initiative forms part of MultiChoice’s broader strategy to transition former Showmax users into its DStv ecosystem after the service was discontinued on 30 April. By consolidating live television, sport, films and original productions onto a single platform, the company aims to retain streaming audiences while gradually introducing them to its premium subscription offerings.
The migration process began in May, when eligible customers were granted complimentary access to DStv Stream Compact until the end of the month before being enrolled onto the discounted plan.
The offer is available to direct Showmax subscribers, including users of Showmax Premier League, provided their subscriptions remain active and payments are up to date. Existing DStv customers are not eligible, as Showmax content is already included within their packages.
Through the promotion, former Showmax users gain access to a broader range of entertainment, including live television channels, films, series and SuperSport programming.
“Our priority is to ensure customers continue to have a home for the stories they love,” said Nzola Miranda, Managing Director of MultiChoice Kenya.
Showmax, which had become MultiChoice’s flagship streaming service, has now been integrated into DStv Stream following Canal+’s acquisition of the broadcaster. Popular Kenyan original productions, including Single Kiasi and Adulting, are now available through a dedicated Showmax section within the DStv Stream application.
The move also broadens access to sports content. While Showmax Premier League was previously restricted to mobile viewing, DStv Stream subscribers can now watch Premier League matches and other SuperSport content on smart televisions and connected devices.
Former Showmax subscribers are required to create new DStv Stream accounts, as subscriptions were not transferred automatically. Customers who chose not to migrate remain eligible for refunds on the unused portion of their Showmax subscriptions.
