The Chairperson of the National Information Technology Agency (NITA) Governing Board, Estelle Akofio-Sowah, has called for successful digital innovations to be scaled beyond individual projects to create wider opportunities and accelerate Ghana’s national development.
She said Ghana’s digital transformation would depend not only on the technologies developed but also on the country’s ability to turn successful ideas into solutions that could be deployed at scale and deliver value across society.
Speaking at an event themed “Innovation at Scale: Creating Opportunities Across Ghana’s Digital Ecosystem,” Ms Akofio-Sowah said the theme provided an opportunity for stakeholders to assess the country’s progress, identify gaps and strengthen collaboration to advance the digital economy.
She stressed that scaling innovation required a coordinated national effort involving government, businesses, technology professionals and other stakeholders.
“Ghana’s digital future will not change significantly by the technologies we develop, but by our ability to take successful ideas beyond the individual projects and transform the digital future that creates opportunities and national development for all,” she said.
Ms Akofio-Sowah said a strong digital ecosystem required institutions capable of supporting innovation through effective governance, sound technology policies, responsible investment, skilled professionals and secure infrastructure.
She noted that the rapid development of artificial intelligence, cloud computing, digital public infrastructure, cybersecurity, data-driven services and other emerging technologies was creating new policy and governance challenges for governments, businesses and citizens.
According to her, the opportunities created by technological advancement also came with responsibilities to ensure that innovation was inclusive, secure and sustainable.
She therefore urged stakeholders to focus on developing solutions that created real value for citizens, businesses and other actors within the digital ecosystem.
Ms Akofio-Sowah said collaboration, knowledge sharing and collective action were critical to moving innovation from ideas and technical solutions to interventions capable of delivering impact at scale.
She encouraged participants at the event to use the platform to connect, challenge existing approaches, exchange ideas and contribute to shaping Ghana’s digital future.
The NITA Governing Board Chairperson further assured stakeholders that the Board remained committed to providing strategic oversight and governance to strengthen the agency’s contribution to Ghana’s digital transformation.
She said Ghana’s digital economy presented significant opportunities for innovation, investment and talent development, adding that the country needed to build an ecosystem where innovation was encouraged, investment attracted, talent developed and opportunities expanded.
Ms Akofio-Sowah expressed appreciation to the organisers, speakers, exhibitors, sponsors and participants for their contribution towards making the event possible.
She said the collective efforts of stakeholders would be essential to building a stronger digital ecosystem capable of converting innovation into sustainable national opportunities.
