The Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has officially opened a training programme on integrity and related governance issues for staff of the Parliamentary Service, underscoring the importance of ethical conduct, accountability and professionalism in public service.

‎‎The programme, organised jointly by the Legal and Governance Services Office, the Parliamentary Training Institute (PTI) and the Human Resource Department, seeks to strengthen integrity and promote high ethical standards among Parliamentary Service personnel.

‎‎Addressing participants at the opening ceremony, Mr Bagbin described integrity as one of the most valuable attributes in public service and a critical tool in the fight against corruption. He stressed that public trust is built on ethical behaviour and responsible conduct, noting that confidence in public institutions must be earned rather than assumed.

‎‎“Integrity remains the strongest antidote to corruption and the foundation upon which public trust is built,” he stated.

‎‎The Speaker urged staff members to actively engage in the training sessions and apply the lessons learned in the discharge of their duties. He also encouraged them to contribute towards fostering a workplace culture grounded in ethics, accountability and professionalism.

‎‎The Clerk to Parliament, Mr Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, also highlighted the significance of integrity and professional conduct within the Parliamentary Service.

‎‎According to him, the training programme was carefully designed by the Legal and Governance Division under the guidance of the Speaker as part of efforts to implement the Corruption Risk Mitigation Plan adopted in 2024.

‎‎He explained that the initiative aims to deepen awareness and understanding of the code of conduct governing public officers, as well as grievance handling and service delivery processes within the institution.

‎‎Mr Djietror described Parliament as a bastion of democracy that must consistently uphold the highest standards of transparency and accountability.

‎‎He reminded staff that public service should be viewed as a sacrifice rather than a profit-making venture, urging them to serve with sincerity, dedication and a strong commitment to the public good.

‎‎The training programme forms part of Parliament’s broader efforts to strengthen institutional integrity, enhance ethical standards and reinforce public confidence in Ghana’s democratic governance structures.
