Minister-Designate for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has assured Ghanaians that under his leadership, telcos in the country will be given more spectrum to improve on quality of service.
He was however quick to state that after they have given the spectrum, any telco which fails to improve on quality of service will face sanctions.
“I will not be a minister who will be afraid to impose a fine when MNOs fail to provide the quality of services required, and we will support them to provide the best quality of service,” he stated.
Sam George made the remarks during his vetting before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on January 30.
He reaffirmed his commitment to holding telcos accountable while ensuring Ghanaians receive reliable and efficient mobile network services.
The Minister-Designate stressed that while the government would assist operators in upgrading infrastructure, penalties would be enforced for substandard network performance such as call drops, slow internet speeds, and poor connectivity and others.
Sam George further pledged to foster a regulatory environment that promotes innovation and technological advancement, ensuring Ghana remains a leader in Africa’s digital transformation.
