Bank of Ghana (BoG) has strongly refuted reports suggesting that it is considering the sale of its current headquarters, the Bank Square, describing the claims as false and misleading.

‎‎In a statement, the central bank dismissed a publication by ‘myjoyonline.com’ dated 1 June 2026, titled “Bank of Ghana considering sale of new $260m headquarters – sources”, insisting that no such discussions or plans exist.

‎“The Bank of Ghana categorically states that this report is false and misleading. The Bank is not considering, discussing, or planning the sale of its new headquarters,” the statement said.

‎According to the Bank, the new facility was commissioned to support its operations and improve efficiency in carrying out its statutory responsibilities.

It emphasised that the building remains a critical asset and forms an integral part of its long-term operational strategy.

‎‎The central bank urged the public and the media to disregard the report, warning that unverified publications of this nature could undermine confidence in Ghana’s financial system and generate unnecessary uncertainty in the market.

‎‎“The Bank of Ghana remains committed to transparency and will continue to engage stakeholders through its official channels,” it stated.

‎‎The Bank further clarified that all official communications are disseminated through its website, verified social media platforms, press releases issued by its Communications Department, and statements signed by the Secretary of the Bank.

‎‎It also encouraged media organisations to seek clarification directly from the Bank before publishing reports relating to its operations, in order to ensure accuracy and prevent the spread of misinformation.

‎The clarification comes amid heightened public interest in the Bank’s new headquarters, which has been the subject of debate and scrutiny since its completion.
