The National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced that it will begin Ghana Card registration for children aged between 6 and 14 years in the Northern Region from Thursday, 11 June 2026.
The exercise forms part of the Authority’s ongoing efforts to expand the national identification system and ensure that all eligible Ghanaians are captured in the National Identity Register from an early age.
According to the NIA, the registration exercise will be conducted at designated centres across the Northern Region, where eligible children will be enrolled and issued with Ghana Card numbers.

Parents and guardians are expected to accompany their children and provide the necessary supporting documents to facilitate the registration process.
The Authority stated that the initiative is aimed at strengthening Ghana’s identification infrastructure, improving access to public services and ensuring that children are included in national development planning and social intervention programmes.
The NIA urged parents and guardians to take advantage of the exercise by ensuring that all eligible children are registered within the stipulated period.
The Ghana Card remains the country’s primary form of national identification and is increasingly being used to access essential services, including healthcare, education, financial services and social protection programmes.
Further details regarding registration centres and requirements are expected to be communicated by the Authority ahead of the commencement of the exercise.
